God is in the mind September 2, 2008

Faith has been all this time linked to the heart. Yet the more I read and meditate upon the Scriptures, the more assurance I get that faith is in the mind rather than in the heart.

The heart feels it. The mind knows it. One of Jesus’ famous quotes is: “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free”. That’s because feelings come and go, yet what we know is for ever. At first glance, there’s no difference between the belief of the heart and the belief of the mind. The difference shows itself in moments of adversity, when, due to bad news, the heart is broken. It’s almost impossible to keep emotions high in such moments. We are humans, we are flesh, we are built to feel. Nevertheless, it is well possible in such moments of adversity to remember yourself that you are not alone, and that a power beyond human capacity will supply the way out you need.

Now, that brings inner peace! That’s because when someone believes that a superior power watches over him, he won’t panic! The mind, though faith, masters the heart.

Fellowship with God is the constant reminder that He exists and is with you at all times. That takes place in my mind and not in my heart.

What about love?

There’s no love without faith! How can someone love God if he doesn’t believe He’s for real?

In the Bible we find God’s thoughts. When one reads the Bible, as with any other book, he receives the thoughts therein written.

One just needs to open his mind a little to begin to comprehend the life around him. To deny the importance of faith is a very narrow-minded attitude, to say the least.
